First cruise ship “Zolotoye Koltso” laid at Lotos shipyard

A keel-laying ceremony was held for lead ship “Zolotoye Koltso” of PCS 180 project at Lotos shipyard (incorporated in United Shipbuilding Corporation) on January 17th 2018. Thus construction of a new line of passenger cruise ships commenced.

The keel-laying ceremony was attended by Alexey Rakhmanov, a USC President; Alexander Zhilkin, a Governor of the Astrakhan Region; Igor Sadovnichy, a temporarily acting General Director of JSC “Shipbuilding yard “Lotos”; Alexander Babich, a Director of “Goznak-leasing” CJSC; Dmitry Galkin, a General Director of the “Gama” Group of companies.

Construction of two ships of a “Zolotoye Koltso” type was ordered by the Gama Group. They will be operated by Group`s affiliate companies OOO -Volgaservice and OOO Rechservice.

The ships will be built within a subsidized leasing program for USC sea and river civil vessels with the Goznak Leasing Company (incorporated in USC) being involved.

The lead ship is a three-deck motor vessel designed for 180 passengers to be accommodated in cabins de luxe and first-class cabins. Passengers will have at their disposal a big restaurant, spa, sauna, fitness room and other options for a comfortable voyage. There will be also special rooms for disabled people.

Technologies to be used for the new ships construction will ensure their high reliability and effective operation on extremely shallow waters – to 1,2 meters. It gives a significant advantage to “Zolotoye Koltso” over existing river cruise fleet, which is not operated at such depths. Besides, computer-control of ship`s movements and systems allows mooring to non-equipped shores. The newly designed ships make it possible to expand the river cruise geography not only in the European part of the country, but also in Siberia and Far East.

Cruise ships are back to our river routes thanks to the state aid. Today we have laid the first ship out of two unique paddle wheelers “Zolotoye Koltso” in addition to two PV-300 modern liners being already built. It follows President Vladimir Putin, who ordered to ensure a long-term state aid for the civil shipbuilding, and will contribute to further re-establishment of the cruise fleet in this country.

We have no doubts, that due to the measures taken the Golden Ring of Russia will become fully navigable again, and a growing number of passengers, both our compatriots and foreign tourists, will go on river voyages each year” – said Denis Manturov, the Minister for Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

“Today we are laying here the first cruise version of an interesting technical solution designed by the Gama Company some time ago. It is a paddle wheeler, which will allow entering a new phase of voyages along Russian rivers. We will be able to carry Russian and foreign tourists by this ship, show this country and its beauty without any restrictions allover, where it used to be impossible to pass by vessels with a big draft” – said Alexey Rakhmanov, the USC President.

“It is a brand new design developed with due regard for Russian inland waterways, which serves for further re-establishment of country`s passenger cruise fleet and touristic sector in general. Two new ships will contribute to our shipyard`s stock of orders. The yard is constantly expanding its skills in passenger fleet construction and will fulfill its contractual obligations” – said Igor Sadovnichy, the temporarily acting General Director of JSC Shipbuilding yard Lotos.
